Once an elementary school in Mannington, the building is now a museum under the direction of the West Augusta Historical Society. The museum features the original bed, chair, and dresser of Francis H. Pierpont, the “Father of West Virginia.” Visitors will also see mountain musical instruments, early school exhibits, relics of the Bower’s Pottery as well as artifacts from the oil and gas industry.
Adjacent to the museum is an 1870 log cabin originally built in Wetzel Co. by George Washington Price. The log cabin is restored and furnished with authentic items of the era. Visitors can also see Chessie System caboose built in 1912 as well as a 1900’s South Penn Oil Co. Gasoline Station.
